jGMA: A lightweight implementation of the Grid Monitoring Architecture

Wide-area distributed systems require scalable mechanisms that can be used to gather and distribute system information to a variety of endpoints. In this paper we report on jGMA, a Java-based implementation of the GGFs Grid Monitoring Architecture (GMA), that we have specifically designed to be compliant, standard-based and fulfil the needs of an in-house grid monitoring system. In the first half of paper we introduce GMA, outline current implementations, and provide the reasons that motivated us to design and then implement jGMA. In second part of the paper we discuss the implementation, it scalability and general performance, and finally conclude the paper and outline future work on jGMA.
